Teenage gun violence hits high schools again?

A 15 year-old White male teenage sophomore student at a northeast Wisconsin high school, took his classmates and teacher hostage on November 29, 2010 for approximately 5-6 hours.

Police responded to the scene and a standoff with police ensued. The student, Samuel Hengel, shot himself when police approached him. He was taken to the hospital where he died the following day from injuries due to the self-inflicted gunshot.

15 year-old Samuel Hengel, was said to have been in possession of both a 22-caliber semi-automatic and a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun. According to a CNN article, the school is reported to have approximately 700 students, grades 9 to 12.

Other news reports have indicated that the school will be using additional grant money to improve security procedures and enhance student counseling, from a federal program called the “School Emergency Response to Violence.”

This certainly show that even suburban young males are prone to the same violent and socially destructive as their young urban male counterparts.
